A classically-written ghost story with modern sensibilities and imagery, this is a pretty effective read with relatively three-dimensional characters. It can become a bit long-winded at times, and particularly the first half can feel a tad winding and pointless; there is a lot of exposition-that-doesn't-feel-like-exposition given, and it makes one wonder if there's any point to it, or if it's just coloring. But in the end all of it ties together, and while the first half does have quite eerie moments, the second half is where everything comes together and it acts more of a roller-coaster until the end.
