First of all: yes, I know, it's been a while, but didn't I mention that life is more important and takes priority over the blog?
Secondly: while on the road with a friend after visiting Philadelphia, we got to talking and we were swapping songs that inspire us to do our art (she draws and wants to hone her writing talent). While doing so she asked to have my playlist, and mentioned that I should start sharing what inspires me to write and helps drive me forward.
Hence, this post.
For the last book that I wrote, a first draft that I finished not more than a month ago, I was hooked on the soundtrack for "Hellbound: Hellraiser II," which is a "celebration of horror." Those were the directions given by the director to the film's composer, Christopher Young, and he definitely delivered. There are literal moments from the soundtrack that appear in the book--at least in my mind.
Additionally there were some very 80s songs that inspired the tone of the novel, since it is reminiscent of Stephen King's work. While there are no specific songs that come to mind, think of some from a-ha, Pat Benatar, and synth works such as Brad Fiedel, Vangelis, and the theme song from "Stranger Things."
